The College Development Council in consultation with the University and other concerned Bodies takes all such steps as it thinks fit for the promotion, co-ordination and raising the standard of education in colleges. It
Functions as a policy making body with regard to proper planning for integral development of Colleges;
Conducts survey of colleges and prepares the profile of each college;
Prepares the perspective plan for the development and opening of new Colleges to enable the university and State Education Authorities to take long term decisions on the planning and development of colleges advices the University on matters relating to different disciplines taught in colleges. At different levels of University education;
Advises the University with regard to rationalization and implementation of University’s policy on affiliation of colleges
Keeps close contact with the Colleges with a view to helping them in their proper selection and approval of appointment of teachers, students amenities, proper utilization of grant and efficient implementation of U.G.C approved projects and reforms viz., examination reforms, courses, COSIP, COHSIP, restructuring of courses to make them more relevant and significant not only to students, but also to the region as a whole by assessing social transformation and regional development.
Reviews the facilities for post-graduate departments in college, in terms of the norms prescribed by the UGC, State Government and University and assists those having the potential of coming up to the norms within a few years;
Helps in the implementation of Regulations framed by the UGC regarding minimum standards of instruction for the award of degree and also regarding restructuring of courses at the undergraduate level,
Helps in the selective development of some colleges to remove regional imbalances and also assists colleges to realize their potential, and in the identification of colleges for autonomous status;
Evaluates and assesses the impact of UGC grants utilized by colleges;
Ensures that these grants are properly and expeditiously disbursed to colleges for specified purposes according to the guidelines laid down by the Commission;
Obtains from colleges and furnishes to the Commission the Utilization Certificates and completion documents in respect of UGC grants released / disbursed to colleges through the University and helps in monitoring the UGC programmes implemented by the affiliated colleges;
Ensure close and continued contact and interaction between the academic faculties at the University teaching departments and at the colleges, monitors regular statistics on the development of colleges;
Reviews the inspection reports of colleges and suggest remedies for the deficiencies and irregularities reported;
Prepares Annual Reports of the functions of the College Development Council during the year and submits the same to the Syndicate and the University Grant Commission;
Performs such other functions as may be prescribed or as may be deemed necessary by the University for advancing the cause of collegiate education as may be incidental or conductive to the discharge of the above functions.
Apart from the above mentioned functions, the CDC is also entrusted with the following additional responsibilities:
Granting affiliation to colleges.
Granting colleges in their assessment and accreditation by NAAC.
Encouraging Colleges in getting colleges with Potential for Excellence (CPE) status.
Approving the appointment of teachers & Principals of private colleges.
Collecting and maintaining statistics pertaining to colleges and courses.
Assisting colleges in getting UGC grants and FIP’s .
Promoting Vocational and Job Oriented Courses in colleges.
Assisting colleges in all academic, administrative and infrastructural development.
